  • Increasing the number of people who walk in Hamilton goes beyond individual health benefits - it builds a stronger community.
  • Increasing the number of physically active Hamiltonians will save money.  If 10% more Canadians become active, the country could save about 5 billion dollars in health care costs.
  • 1,236 hospitalizations (2000-01) among Hamilton  older adults were fall-related (Ontario Trauma Registry, March 2002)
  • More people out walking means more eyes on the street.  This may result in less crime, safer neighbourhoods, and can also promote neighbourhood interaction.

  
 

By choosing an active mode of transportations, such as walking, we can reduce the number of cars on the road.  Fewer cars result in fewer pollutants released into the air.
