An hour of ‘walk and talk’; and you will feel like you have had ‘your turn’.

Walking used to be a part of everyone’s life.  People maintained their muscle and bone strength and endurance without thinking about it. They walked to the store, to work and to church.  They took the stairs because they had to.  Today we must all look for opportunities to walk to maintain our body’s very basic need for physical activity. Walking is safe and easy for most people.

Walking is easier in the company of a good friend!

Book regular walks several evenings a week with different friends.  This is a great opportunity to visit with your good friends.  End the evening with a ‘coffee break’ and you will feel like you have had ‘your turn’.

Try a pedometer; it is more rewarding than counting calories!

Many women enjoy using a pedometer to keep track of how many steps they walk a day. It is a great way to stay motivated to walk.  Here is a Pedometer Guide to get you started.

Start a Walking Group at Home or at Work!

Being part of a Walking Group provides even more options than walking with a friend. Several people from the group are usually available to walk at all times, so you will never miss your walk. You will meet new friends and discover new routes.  You may feel safer walking in a group, especially in the evening.  All you need to know about starting a walking group is in Hamilton Walks:
