About the Eat Smart! Workplace Cafeteria Program:
The Eat Smart! Workplace Program Award of Excellence is a provincial program with the Ontario Public Health Association that recognizes workplace cafeterias for exceptional nutrition and food safety standards and a smoke free environment.
To qualify, the workplace must:
- Provide a variety of healthier food choices, on the menu and by request, including vegetables and fruit, whole grains, food prepared in a healthier way, lower fat options, and substitutions.
- Have an excellent track record in food safety based on the requirement of Ontario’s Food Premises Regulation and at least one full-time kitchen employee certified in safe food handling.
- Must be in compliance with the Smoke-Free Act (2005) and not show tobacco products or accessories.
A Registered Dietitian from Hamilton Public Health Services can meet with your workplace* and food service provider at no cost to review the standards and help enable the cafeteria to recieve the award.
